P21 Gallery, London, UK
A multimedia exhibition with portrait photography, a sound and video art installation, a series of video stories and video interviews with Sudan /South Sudan writers, poets, cultural entrepreneurs and publishers, a series of public talks and events at P21Gallery and a books display.
In July-August 2018, I conducted research in Khartoum Sudan about the literature of Sudan and South Sudan in order to establish and foster contacts with partners, authors and cultural institutions and increase the number of cultural connections between the UK and East Africa.
My rich and unprecedented research of Sudan and South Sudan current state of literature leaded me to curate and organise The Sudan South Sudan Literature Week, a multimedia exhibition with portrait photography, a sound and video art installation, a series of video stories and video interviews with Sudan /South Sudan writers, poets, cultural entrepreneurs and publishers, a series of public talks and events, and a books display at P21 Gallery, London, UK, 1st – 10th November 2018.
The multifaceted insight into the literary scene in Sudan and South Sudan attracted a large amount of interest with more than 800 visitors and several international media reports. The exhibition reflected the diverse themes and modes of production with visual representations of the writers, their work, and Sudanese culture. The whole project successfully demonstrated the richness and diversity of the countries’ overlooked literary scenes.
The turnout to this multimedia exhibition including the engagement programme was fantastic, the discussion as well as audience participation was very invigorating and served to display the importance of discussions about cultural and literature and creative writing as key elements to the understanding of the countries’ rich history. http://sudansouthsudanlit.com
